Different Types of Wood Floors from Floorz of Brentwood, TN

You’ve been in the same home for 20 years.  When you bought it, it was a stock house, similar to every other fourth home on the block.  But after 20 years, you’ve done a number of things to the interior and exterior to make it your own.  From refinishing bathrooms, to installing a deck and a fire pit out back, to extending the kitchen into the backyard, over time your home has become one of a kind.  And now it’s time to re do the floors.

For years you’ve had a bland gray carpet, but you’re ready to step it up to something more elegant, so you’re thinking wood floors.  Lucky for you, Floorz of Brentwood, TN has got you covered.

Before you have your floor installed, you’ll need to decide what type of wood floor you’ll choose.  We recommend choosing a wood floor type based on what best fits your home’s floor plan as well as choosing something that suits the types of activities that will be happening on the new floor.

The first wood type is 1.) SOLID WOOD.  Solid wood flooring can be bought either as finished or unfinished slats.  Unfinished flooring is finished by the contractor, and then installed, whereas pre-finished flooring is already finished before you purchase it, so it only has to be installed by the contractor.

Solid wood flooring can be broken up into three types. The three types of solid wood flooring are:

1.     Strip Flooring- Strip floors always have the same width, but the thickness of the wood panels varies.
2.     Plank flooring- Unlike strip flooring, the width varies, but the thickness generally comes in only a couple of different sizes.
3.     Parquet flooring- parquet flooring is made up of small slats of wood pieced together in larger shapes.  It works well for homes with nontraditional floor plans.

In addition to solid wood flooring, there is also 2.) ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING, which is a composite of hardwood and laminate, great if you have kids and plan on having to replace the floor more frequently due to damage.  The last wood floor type is 3.) ACRYLIC-IMPREGNATED wood, flooring which is infused with a sealant throughout the wood, as opposed to just placing a sealant on top, for an extra strong finish.
